  1. I hear Octavia and Viola say the responsibility is on the ticket buyer and the focus on execution. They have a good point..but there is still an issue of black people playing the role of the servant to whites. Some people in America love that relationship it makes them feel “empowered”. The woman host on Bravo’s “Say Yes to the Dress” say “it reminds me of the good ol’ days in the south”. It is that selective celebration which makes people with humanity mad. The “as long as we had those people to do the work things were dandy” sentiment.

    I’ve heard it explained as a reaffirmation to say “remember you were slaves/servants”. The argument says it comes from the same place in some whites that makes them disinterested in seeing a productive black person who does not share their values. It comes from the same place that brings out cheers of “He is a stand up guy”, “He is such a class act”, when a black man does not disagree with predominant white opinion.
