김영옥

Colonel Young Oak Kim was the first Asian American to command a combat battalion.  He was with the 100th Infantry Battalion, a segregated Japanese American unit.  Kim was asked if he wanted to be reassigned, because of the popular “knowledge” that Koreans hate Japanese, but he refused.

Col. Kim actively worked for Asian American issues throughout his lifetime.
