Civil rights leader Dorothy Height has died. She was 98. Height was involved in the fight for gender and racial equality since the 1930’s.
Height had been awarded a scholarship to Barnard College but was denied entrance because Barnard had already admitted its quota of African Americans. Which was two. She went to New York University anyway, earned her master’s degree and did post-grad studies in social work. Kind of makes you wonder about where we would all be if it really were a level playing field.
