A rose by any other name

Heather Aguilar wonders whether she would be a U.S. citizen by now had she kept her maiden name.  If she were still Heather Newman, she thinks, her naturalization application might have zipped through the process, making her a citizen along with her siblings and parents.

Ever consider changing your name?  If you have an “ethnic” name, would you change it to some “garden variety” name?  If you have a “garden variety” name, would you change it to an “ethnic” name?  What are the implications of doing so?

I sometimes wish I had a name that I didn’t have to spell for people.  But I’ve never considered changing it.  If nothing else, people’s reactions to it give me a good window into their thoughts.
