Never had a backup plan

Because he knew what he wanted and he achieved it.

Meet Sammy Lee, M.D.  Two-time Olympic gold in diving.  First Asian American to ever win the gold.

He could only swim one day a week in the public pool because of racist restrictions.

Makes you wonder what would happen if the playing field were level.

Oh fair commenters!

Your chance once again to write a post. Have at it.

Best. Headline. Ever.

In other news, water still wet.

Japanese Americans not surprised by internment lies:

Acting Solicitor General Neal Katyal said Tuesday that the internment of Japanese-Americans was based on lies and deliberate deception by the wartime solicitor general.

Katyal said it was time to “set the record straight.”

He said Charles Fahy, solicitor general appointed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, purposely withheld an intelligence report that concluded Japanese-Americans living on the West Coast were not a military threat.

As the U.S. government’s top attorney, Fahy was duty-bound to be impartial and truthful, Katyal said. Instead, Fahy lied to the Supreme Court, saying the government and the military had concluded just the opposite – that Japanese-Americans were a threat and interning them was a “military necessity.”

Then comment at length, removing the need for me to blog.

Riding while Snappled:  Passenger Douglas Brown was drinking a strawberry-kiwi Snapple and spent two days in custody.

Whites believe they are victims of racism more often than blacks:   Well, I think we knew that already.  You can read the whole study here (.pdf link).  Here’s the summary table:

Edited to add one more:  Lawsuit:  Only white workers at Washington hospital ward.

The postracial society

Everyone will be white. Problem solved!

I saw this in a magazine yesterday when I was at the doctor’s office.  It’s an advertisement for some Dove product, and shows you the “Before” and “After.”

So I googled around to see what other people were saying.  (As usual, don’t read the comments.)  Many people said that this was not a real ad.  Again failing to perform even the easiest of searches.  Because here’s the picture direct from the Dove website, since I couldn’t steal the doctor’s magazine.

Spreading the love

So you and your wife want to attend the last Oprah show. But you don’t have tickets. What do you do? Why, you drive to Chicago from Ontario and then pretend you were mugged.

The two muggers? According to you, one is African American and one Latino.

Don’t get left behind!

Just six more days to contribute to Grace Lee’s documentary about Grace Lee Boggs, American Revolutionary.  Lee has a benefactor who will contribute $5,000 if she makes it to the $12,500 mark.

Okay folks, now is the time to put up.  We talk about representation in our community all the time.  We talk about activism.  But there is work to be done.  And it takes money.  Give if you’ve got it.  Because we need people to know the story of Grace Lee Boggs.

Um, okay?

Angry Asian Man posted another video preview of the Chin Chens, obviously to share his misery and suffering.  We have previously provided our valuable feedbacks on this hideous excuse for a sitcom.  But then we had to go and listen to the theme song.  Here are the lyrics:

Waking up with a world through different eyes
Believing we can swim against the crimson tide
[unintelligible] we hitched a ride on the rising sun
Off to start our lives anew
A girl for him, for me a son
We’re Americans at heart
Asians by blood
Red white and blue
Mixed with yellow-colored mud
With our faith we’ve reached the dream
To our heritage we cling
The world is one big family
Oh yes we’re one big family.

Seriously, you couldn’t make this shit up.

800 pot plants

$3,000 in cash.  Two senior citizens.  Asians behaving badly.

Meet Aleen Lam, 72, and Virginia Pon, 65.  Busted.

李小龍

Just because.
