327 months
That’s what Frank Lombard got for raping his adopted son and offering him up on the internet. From a DOJ press release dated March 29, 2010:
WASHINGTON—Frank Lombard, 43, of Durham, North Carolina, was sentenced today in U.S. District Court to 327 months in prison for producing child pornography, announced U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Machen Jr., Metropolitan Police Department Chief Cathy L. Lanier, and Shawn Henry, Assistant Director of the FBI’s Washington Field Office. Lombard, a former Duke University employee who pled guilty on December 17, 2009, to sexual exploitation of a minor, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Gladys Kessler, who also ordered that Lombard serve a lifetime period of supervised release upon completion of his prison sentence, during which time he will be required to register as a sex offender.
According to the Statement of the Offense filed in conjunction with the plea agreement, Lombard admitted to streaming a live pornographic image of himself and his prepubescent adopted son to another Internet user via a webcam in August 2007, evidence of which was found during a search of Lombard’s Durham, North Carolina home pursuant to a federal search warrant on June 24, 2009. Lombard also admitted that during a June 24, 2009, Internet chat session with an undercover police officer, he invited that officer to fly to Durham, North Carolina, in order to have sexual contact with his adopted son. At the time of Lombard’s June 24, 2009, arrest, child pornography materials were found in his home, and he admitted to law enforcement agents that he had engaged in sexual contact with his adopted son.
“Sexual conduct”? I wonder if it’s a legally-defined phrase. In any event, why was he convicted just on sexual exploitation?
And I wonder if 327 months would ever be enough.
Dumb as rocks
Well, I know given the recent events at UCSD and many other universities and law schools, you all don’t need any proof that our educational system is failing. However, here’s another anecdote to pile on:
White high school students in South Dakota made and wore “Wh1te Pr1de Worldwide” t-shirts to school. The reason?
Codie Novotny, a 16-year-old sophomore at Chamberlain High School … said the shirts were worn in reaction to accusations by students in the Native American Club that white students and teachers are racist.
Because Indian students sometimes wear clothing proclaiming “Native Pride,” Novotny said, it’s only fair that white students be allowed to do the same thing.
Additionally, it’s a matter of fairness: Read the rest of this entry
It’s come to this
The media reports about television shows. And I read those reports. Woe is me. Anyway, I recently read that the two cheerleaders on “Glee” (the blonde one and the Latina one) are going to be promoted to series regulars. Am I the only person who wishes the Latina weren’t the sex kitten?
So who does that leave out in the cold? Just poor old Harry Shum Jr. and the black guy. I don’t even know his name. Which tells you something.
Also some of the singing makes my ears hurt.
More deportations
U.S. ADOPTIVE PARENTS of internationally adopted children: Make sure your children have their certificate of citizenship and a valid passport. Brown folks, get a passport card. And stay out of Arizona.
She was adopted from a Mexican orphanage and brought to the U.S. Now she’s being detained pending deportation proceedings. Her parents never obtained citizenship for her.
And if you ever wanted proof that adopted persons of color raised in white households don’t retain white privilege, just read some of the article comments.
Immigration and citizenship are going to become explosive problems in the near future, whether or not President Obama has the “appetite” (I’d say the “stomach”) to deal with them now. And this is evident in the adoption community, where white privilege and willful ignorance of anti-immigrant sentiment keeps parents from protecting their children. Read the rest of this entry
I’m going to get a white guy mask
Imagine all the things I could do with it. It would make it so much easier to find an apartment. Nobody would follow me around in the store. I would make more money with less education.
His name
His name was Hugo Alfredo Tale-Yax. He was 31 years old and a K’iché from Guatemala. The last thing he did was to aid a Queens woman. For that he paid with his life.
Wanker alert
I think that should be a new tag.
A GOP candidate for governor of Alabama is running an ad that states in part: “This is Alabama. We speak English. If you want to live here, learn it.”
Because not having English-only driver’s license exams is a pressing problem in our country. Yes indeed.
