Another one
To add to the list.
A 42-year-old woman has been taken into custody. She is suspected of causing the death of her 3-year-old daughter, who was adopted from China.
The child died on May 8, 2008, but the arrest warrant wasn’t issued until August 5, 2009.
Where our sympathy lies
Over at the New York Times, Motherlode writer Lisa Belkin is in full defense mode of blogger Anita Tedaldi. But the numbers don’t add up.
From Lisa Belkin: Anita adopted D. when he was a little less than a year old. He was with her for about 18 months and was about two and a half when he left with Samantha.
According to other blog posts by Tedaldi, the kid was four months old when he was adopted. His adoption was probably around April 2006. The disruption was some time after June 2008. During the period between April 2006 and June 2008, Tedaldi gave birth twice. So while this child was in her home, she was either pregnant or with a newborn. Or both. Read the rest of this entry
Go back to China!
Yes, I mean you!
The Washington Post appears to keep changing the headline on the article about the kid with TB whose parents used privilege to get her to the States. It’s now “A Special Delivery Well Worth the Wait.” Gag me.
For some reason I keep reading the comments at various news sites like a looky-loo running to witness the aftermath of a train wreck. What can I say, it’s a psychological deficiency. Anyway, here’s one for the books:
Also, how you can equate the wrong policies and practices against native American Indians with people adopting from China is bizarre. We adoptive parents want to nurish and protect the children we adopt.
Also, I know of no highly racist environment against people from China. Be that as it may, if you live in the USA and find it so objectionable here, move to China! My little girl from China will not be moving back anytime soon.
Can’t say as how I’m surprised.
Trying out the new tag
IBTCOOM,NTTE.
So you’re a family with five biological kids and a husband who is often deployed. And you’re approved for an adoption, because you’d love to have a big family. After 18 months, you call it quits. Read the rest of this entry
Maybe they gave up on the ‘Great Brown Hope’
Lynn Jenkins (R-Kansas-White) recently announced the GOP’s need to find the great white hope. She then named three white guys.
Guess she’s given up on Bobby Jindal or Michael Steele.
Love the way the article tells us that Obama is the first African American president.
(I saw this article over at Shakesville. <3)
Just for fun
Because we here at Resist Racism are all about fun, yanno.

Guess privilege works
So two weeks after being told the kid couldn’t leave the country, she got a visa. You remember the story. A couple travels to China to adopt a four-year-old. They have a good indication that she might have TB before they go, and they receive confirmation when they get there. But what do they do? They adopt her, undoubtedly thinking that that they’ll get past the TB requirements for immigrants.
Because as the mother said, this isn’t an immigrant.
And then they leave her behind in China, because they just can’t stay. Even though adopted children are just like biological children.
And this has lead to a huge call from adoptive parents and adoption agencies and JCICS (which is basically an agency lobby) and other groups who care about the children to call for removal of these restrictions. Not for all children. Because we know it really isn’t about the children. It’s about the adoptive parents. So the call is for adopted children to have special privileges.
Because privilege works.
Ten bucks says the kid is being escorted.
And as a separate rant, don’t you love the way people get a four-year-old who already has a life and a history and immediately change her name?
Edited to add: Where’s my ten bucks?
