The US Census Bureau released figures today that say the US will be “An Older and More Diverse Nation by Midcentury“.
But the media claim ‘whites will lose their majority status by 2042′ or ‘white people will be in the minority by 2042′ (Associated Press, AFP, Bloomberg, BBC).
For those who don’t wish to trawl through it all, the projections are
- Native Hawaiians and Other Pacific Islanders will make up 0.5% of the population,
- Native Americans 2%,
- multiracial people 3.6%,
- asians 9.2%,
- black people 15%,
- ‘hispanics’ 30%,
- and white people ONLY 46%.
Yeah, I know, the percentages don’t add up, (the figures in the press release totalled 502 million for 439 million total projected population by 2050), but even a first-grader can see that the white people would STILL be the majority!
So what’s this about exactly? Oh, yes: scare-mongering.
Careful (white) people! Those pesky coloured folk are going to outnumber you. Better make sure they don’t gang up on you!

I had missed the language used to talk about this. Thanks for pointing it out. I agree that the language coveys a sort of take-over by “minorities.” It will easily be used to fuel arguments by some in favor of maintaining “traditional American values” at the expense of minority groups. Another thing that worries me is the education of these children, which I talk more about in my blog.

Hey, I thought I was the only one offended by the ridiculous language of the article.
Cuz I looked at the stats and trust me, whites will STILL be the majority.
